Dododots Malaysia
One brand, a new country, a storefront rebuilt to match.
- What it is
- Shopify theme, E-commerce
- Built with
- Shopify Liquid, JavaScript, CSS, Shopify CLI, Metafields
- Where it lives
- In progress — built on an unpublished theme on the live store
The best parts
- The Australian theme ported to Malaysia with every cross-store dependency stripped out
- Six product series driven by one metafield, each with its own collection
- An animated header and a free-shipping tier bar that counts down as the cart fills
- Compliance and SKU pages built for the Malaysian market
How it came together
The Shopify theme for Dododots’ Malaysian store: the Australian storefront rebuilt to stand on its own, with an animated header, a free-shipping tier bar and a catalogue reorganised into six product series.
The problem
Dododots already had an Australian store. The Malaysian store needed the same look, but the Australian theme leaned on apps, files and settings that only existed on the other store.
The approach
Port the theme rather than start again, then cut every thread that tied it to Australia so the Malaysian store could run, change and grow on its own.
How it’s built
Liquid sections and snippets edited through Shopify CLI against an unpublished theme on the live store. A custom.series metafield drives six series-* collections; the header, tier bar, compliance and SKU pages are custom sections.
What shipped
A working Malaysian theme in preview with the full storefront, the series catalogue and the new pages, waiting on final content before it goes live.
What I took from it
Working inside a store that is already selling changes how you build. Everything happens on an unpublished copy first, and nothing gets published without the owner looking at it.
